"Do I need to prepare for my makeup trial?"

The more information we have about you, the better! Collect pictures from magazines, Margaret loves to see your dress and jewellery; details of the flowers, the bridesmaid's dresses and a picture of how your hair is to be styled. All this provides us with a guide to your tastes and personal style.

"How should I prepare my skin?"

Leading up to your event, regular facials are ideal along with a good daily skincare routine. Have your waxing completed at least two days prior to your special occasion. The night before gently exfoliate your face and use a hydrating face mask. On the day ensure your face is freshly cleansed and moisturised. It's is also advised that your eyebrows are expertly shaped. Margaret will send through a

"How should I prep my skin before my wedding day?"

If you want to treat yourself, Margaret recommends you go for an exfoliating facial at least 1-2 weeks before your wedding day. You can lightly exfoliate and apply a hydrating moisturiser the night before. In the morning, gently wash your face with a gentle face wash and warm water and you can apply a light moisturiser. Avoid any products that contain sunscreen as this can cause “flashback” (a white face) with any flash photography. If you don't have anything you think is suitable, no worries-  do not apply anything, Margaret preps all her clients with a mini hydrating facial for your skin before applying your makeup. Any facial waxing/tweezing should be done over a week before the wedding day as this can sometimes cause breakouts.

"How should I prep my hair before my wedding day?"

  • Wash your hair the night before. Use two shampoos to the one conditioner, but do not use any products that have a silicone base to it. (e.g. Pantene, Palmolive, Tresemme, Sunsilk) These will make the hair too slippery and it will not hold style well.

  • Do not use any products in the hair, e.g. Serums, smoothing creams, argon/morroccon oil etc.

  • Blow dry your hair as smooth as possible, please DO NOT use a straightening iron. If you do not feel comfortable blow drying your own hair, speak with Margaret who may have time to blow dry it for you on the day (extra $40) or you may want to go to your local salon and have it professionally blowdried.

  • On the day wear a loose cotton button up shirt or cotton robe so your hairstyle is not affected when you change into your dress.

"Will I need to touch up my makeup?"

Your foundation and eye makeup is applied to ensure maximum wear, so it will last for hours without a touch up. If your skin is prone to oiliness, we recommend a powder compact or blotting papers. You will need to touch up your lipstick, Margaret will provide a small pot of lipstick for you to touch up. It's a good idea to allocate one of your bridesmaids as 'makeup attendant'. She will check your makeup before the photos and keep an eye on you throughout the evening to ensure you look your best.

Margaret can also supply an optional 'touch-up' kit which may include essentials such as blotting paper, compact powder and lipstick. Alternatively we can make a list of products for you to purchase.

"Should I have my hair or makeup completed first?"

It's preferable to have your hair done first followed by makeup. If your hairstylist is present, our artists will liaise with them to determine the best outcome for you. For large wedding parties and groups, Margaret Macpherson Beauty will create a 'Run Sheet' with timings for makeup and hair to run smoothly.

"How do you organise the day with timings etc?"

Margaret is well known for her fun, relaxed and well timed services. Allow 45 mins per person for makeup (1 hr for the bride) and 45 mins per person for hair. This can depend on the hairstyle chosen, and also allows time for touch-ups. It is always recommended that hair and makeup is completed at least 1 hour before you need to leave for the ceremony. This is a basic guide, as Margaret will personally talk with you to organise a schedule for your morning so it runs smoothly and everyone has a lot of fun!
